"今もってわからないことだらけとはいえ、CTスキャンを使って土偶の構造をしらべていく中で、新たな発見もいくつか出てきているようだ。
特に注目を浴びているのは、土偶の内部構造。
これまで日本全国で発掘された14000体に近い土偶のほとんどは、手足や頭部の一部が破損していて完全体のものが極めて少なく、その破損片も周辺から発見されないーというのが永い間ナゾだったらしい。
CTスキャン分析の結果、土偶の胴体部は作られる過程で内側から補強された痕跡があるのに対し、手や足、頭部にはその補強の痕跡がほとんど見られない、ということ分かってきたそうだ。
このことから「土偶は、最初から体の部位を壊すために作られたのではないか？ケガや病気の治癒を願った人々が、土偶を身代わりにしてその部分を叩き壊すーという祭礼があったのでは？」という見方が出てきているそうだ。"
